Liderado por cuatro músicos bogotanos; María Mónica Gutiérrez, Kike Mendoza, Jorge Sepúlveda y Kike Harker, provenientes todos del ámbito del jazz, Suricato (voz, guitarra, contrabajo y batería) es una banda que logra conjugar un estilo musical diverso y equilibrado en el que voces tenues y abruptas, líricas ensoñadas, guitarras afiladas y una base rítmica en onda rockera, son los ingredientes idóneos para ofrecer al oyente una experiencia sónica contradictoria pues de la suave mesura pueden pasar fácilmente a terrenos más impetuosos y riesgosos.

 

Suricato es un Artista Marca Colombia y hacen parte de La Respuesta es Colombia", otorgado por el Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, son parte del Portafolio Artístico de la Cancillería.

Más de 110 conciertos, gracias a resultar ganadores de convocatorias como Beca Giras Internacionales de Idartes, Música con Tempo Colombiano, Biblored, Programación Artística de la Media Torta, FUGA, Martes Musical, Festival Distritofónico y Atlantijazz en Barranquilla.

Su música ha sido reseñada en prensa Colombiana (El Espectador, Revista Semana, El Tiempo, ADN, Publimetro, Diners, Arcadia, Bacanika, Revista Avianca, W Radio, Caracol Radio) Venezolana (La Dosis), Argentina (Dinamo, Aprenda Rock), Mexicana (CDMX, Contratiempo Jazz), Brasilera (Sampa, Guia Sao Paulo, Brasileiros, El Guía Latino), Ecuatoriana (Vistazo) Estadounidense (Univisión, Jazz Truth, Culture Capital) y Británica (Sounds & Colours).

2011- Su sorpresivo debut, "Remolque Juguete", editado en el catálogo de La Distritofónica, considerado uno de Los Mejores Discos del Año, según la Revista Semana y su cantante, una de las Nuevas Caras del Año del mismo medio.

Ese mismo año son invitados al Festival de Jazz de Buenos Aires.

2012 - participaron en el proyecto Compositores Javerianos V y al Compilado Jazz MTM Volúmen II, en Septiembre de 2013- Invitados Distritales al XVIII Festival de Jazz al Parque y en Octubre lanzan su Segundo Disco "Rosario de Plumas" bajo el mismo sello, considerado uno de los 3 Discos más Destacados del Año, según la Revista Semana.En 2014- La banda realiza su GIRA MÉXICO 2014, donde su música goza de gran acogida, y son invitados a tocar en la residencia del Embajador de Colombia. 

2015- son Invitados por el World Artists Experiences WAE, para realizar un intercambio cultural en Washington DC y Nueva York.Realizan conciertos y talleres de músicas colombianas aplicadas a la composición contemporánea. Tienen el honor de presentarse en el Auditorio más importante de la Capital estadounidense, el Millennium Stage del Kennedy Center. Efectúan la GIRA BRASIL 2015 ganadores de la convocatoria de Idartes, destacándose su presentación en el Instituto Cervantes, donde fueron invitados por la Embajada de Colombia en Brasil.

2016- Lanzan en conjunto con el Bailarín Colombiano, Fernando Montaño,  el proyecto "El arte cambia el Mundo".

performance lanzado en 2016 en Buenaventura y Cali con el apoyo de ACDI-VOCA y USAID, un proyecto social para la sistematización de experiencias afro descendientes.

Invitados al Festival Free Flow Jazz Fest en Italia.

2017- Gira a Washington D.C., para lanzar su 3cer álbum, Detrás del Sol, y realizar varias Shows de

"El arte cambia el el Mundo " invitados por el Staff Association del BID, la Embajada de Colombia en Estados y el WAE, donde realizan presentaciones en el Museo Nacional de Historia Americana del Smithsonian, el Auditorio del BID , el Teatro Maryland Hall entre otros.

2018- Invitados al Hay Festival, en Cartagena con el "Arte cambia el Mundo" en el Teatro Heredia junto a Fernando Montaño.

Led by four bogotain musicians; María Mónica Gutiérrez, Kike Mendoza, Jorge Sepúlveda and Kike Harker, all of them from the jazz scene, Suricato is a band that manages to combine through its new format (voice, guitar, bass, drums) a diverse and balanced musical style in which faint and abrupt voices, dreamy lyrics, a gentle and at the same time insidios sharpguitars and a rock rhythmic base, are the most suitable ingredients to offer the listener a contradictory sonic experience now that from the soft moderation they can easily go to more impetuous and risky lands.

 

Suricato is part of  "The Answer is Colombia", they are an Marca Colombia Artist, title given by the Ministry of Industry, Turism and Trade, and its part of the Artistic Portfolio of the Chancellery.

The band has done more than 110 concerts in the principal cultural venues in Bogotá, due to their participation in local calls such as Idartes, Música con Tempo Colombiano, Biblored, Programación Artística de la Media Torta, FUGA, Martes Musical, Festival Distritofónico and Atlantijazz in Barranquilla. Their surprise debut, "Remolque Juguete", was edited in the La Distritofónica catalog and was considered one of the Best Albums of 2011 by the Semana Magazine. That same year they were invited to participate in the Festival de Jazz de Buenos Aires.

2012 - They participated in the Compositores Javerianos V project and the Jazz Colombia MTM Vol.II

2013- They were one of the District Guests of the XVIII Festival Jazz al Parque and on October they released their second album "Rosario de Plumas" with the same label, which also had mediatic support.

2014 - The band did its tour GIRA MÉXICO 2014, where its music had great reception.

2015- The tour GIRA BRASIL 2015 was done thanks a the prize given by Idartes for the international mobilization, highlighting their appearence in the Instituto Cervantes, where they were invited by the Colombian Embassy in Brasil.

They were also in Washington in November 2015, where they performed several concerts and workshop of colombian rhythms in the contemporary composition. Additionally, they where invited to perform at the most important venue of the capital of the states, the Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center. They also played in New York, highlighting their show at Barbés, the renowned avantgarde jazz bar, in Brooklyn. In 2016, Suricato was invited to the Free Flow Jazz Fest in Italy.  

2016- They launched the project "Art Changes the World" with the renowed dancer from Buenaventura Fernando Montaño, member of the London´s Royal Ballet. The performance was released on the week of 18 of March in Buenaventura and Cali, with the support of ACDI-VOCA and USAID, a social project for the sistematization of afro descendants experiences.

2017- Suricato launched their third Album, Detrás del Sol in USA, they were invited by the Colombian Embassy, the IDB Staff Association and by the World Artists Experiences WAE, in Washington DC. where they performed at the National Museum of History of the Smithsonian, the IDB Auditorium and the Maryland hall. 

2018- Their most recent national invitation was made by the Hay Festival, in Cartagena, on January to  perform with Fernando Montaño, "Art Changes the World" at the Heredia Theatre
